How to use Nano Banana to create Game Character concept art

November 14, 2025

Nano Banana, Google's powerful image editing model is great for creating game character concept art, ideating on character costumes, poses, expressions and much more. In this post, we will show you how, using the example of a King character for a Match 3 game.

Step 1. Create your first image of the King

Let's start by creating the King character. You can do this using any image generation model out there. We recommend using a Flux custom style. For example, here is a prompt we used to create the King character:

A funny looking king character for a mobile game, with an exaggerated large crown tilted on his head, comical facial expression with wide eyes and a goofy smile. He is holding a shiny sword in one hand. He has a plump body with short legs, wearing royal purple robes with gold trim, and has a red cape. His beard is messy and his posture is slightly awkward.

And here is the image the model produced:

Step 2. Use Nano Banana to make changes

Great, we now have our first image of the King. Time to try some ideas and make some changes using Nano Banana, a great image editing model from Google. You can use this model on the Renderwolf app, or directly on Google.

Let's start by adding a mug of coffee to his other hand!

Nano Banana prompt:

Keep the sword in the king's right hand exactly as it is. Add a fancy royal coffee cup or goblet to his right hand (the hand that is currently empty and at his side). The cup should be ornate with purple and gold colors matching his royal outfit, featuring a royal emblem. The right hand should be repositioned to hold the cup naturally. Keep everything else in the image exactly the same, including his face, crown, sword, and all clothing details.

Result:

That is a nice looking mug! You can ask Nano Banana to change just the mug, if you want to explore other types of mugs. But we will move on to something even more fun!

Let's replace the sword in his hand with a bouquet of flowers instead!

Nano Banana prompt:

Replace the sword in the king's hand with a colorful bouquet of flowers. The bouquet should include purple flowers to match his outfit, along with some red, yellow, and white flowers, wrapped with decorative gold ribbon. The king should be holding the bouquet naturally, with his hand position adjusted appropriately for holding flowers instead of a sword. Keep the coffee mug in his other hand and maintain everything else about his appearance.

Result:

Look at that! A much friendlier king!

How about we add some drama to this? What if a bee comes from the flowers and terrifies the king? Let's do it!

Nano Banana prompt:

Add a small cartoon bee hovering near the yellow daisies in the flower bouquet. Change the king's expression from happy to worried/concerned - his eyes should be wider with raised eyebrows, his smile should become an anxious grimace, and he should appear nervous about the bee. He might be leaning slightly away from the bee. Keep everything else the same including the coffee mug in his right hand and the bouquet in his left hand.

Result:

Wonderful! You can do a wide variety of character concepts and edits using Nano Banana. But as you can see, the prompting requires a lot of thought and effort. We built Woofy, an AI Art Agent that uses Nano Banana on your behalf. You simply provide simple instructions, like "Add flowers to his other hand" and Woofy comes up with the prompts you can see above. Give it a try!
